Eric Langhorst: Speaking of History
Dr. Eric Langhorst teaches 8th grade American History, Broadcasting and technology at Discovery Middle School in Liberty, Missouri. Some of his accomplishments other than receiving his doctorate is that he is certified Google Teacher, was Missouri's Teacher of the year in 2008, and 2015 Swivl Pioneer. On top of teaching he goes around to other schools and districts to do workshops and show teachers how to incorporate technology into their classroom.
One of the reasons why I chose Dr. Eric Langhorst is that he teaches Social Studies like I will be doing. While perusing his site I came across a post about Project Archaeology. Project Archaeology is more of a curriculum that teachers can us in their classrooms to help students become engaged in archaeology and certain archaeological sites. The bigger purpose though is to help students engage and connect with the material in an inquiry based way to build up their critical thinking skills. His video though is basically promoting a work shop to help teachers know how to teach and implement project Archaeology I though that this was cool because in one of my social study education classes we learned about it and how this is an amazing project for students. But Eric website is more of a blog where he posts about what is his students are doing. Its really neat to see him integrate other disciplines into his classroom. I say this because two of recent post have been about a project that his History students are doing. And with the project they have to make an advertisement. By having a background in broadcasting he is able to really incorporate different kinds of technology pieces into his classroom and see the creativity of the students of what they produce with the new technology.
